We all have different styles of parenting and I think it is important to remember that we all do what we do with and for our kids out of love and the child's best interest. There are obvious exceptions but I don't think that is the norm. I recently heard about a book called "Free Range Kids" and the author talks about how she let her 9 year old son ride the subway in NYC home alone. Read what I think about this over at Deep South Moms. And tell me what you think about it, because I'm curious where you all stand.

wow....a 9 year old in NYC alone? That sounds like a case of neglect...and if something had happened to that child that mother would have been held accountable!!
I liked your post. I agree with you. I can't stand the kids who think they own the road either!
I had a long discussion with a group of people about this very topic a while ago. I think that while the world may be "a safer place", it might be that way because we are more careful with our kids. I love to give my kids independence, but my job is to keep them safe and healthy and that is my priority--regardless of what others think.
